What to Expect

One of our instructors will greet you as you enter the academy, and you’ll have the opportunity to change into whatever comfortable, workout style clothes you have before class. Each class begins with a brief stretching and warm up period.

Once the warm-up is completed, we practice some basic techniques. Students are welcome to ask questions during instruction and practice, and everybody is encouraged to train at whatever pace they feel comfortable with.

At the end of class, instructors always recap the lesson and techniques for the day. At no point during the class will new students be required to “spar” or “fight” with other students. We guarantee your first night will be fun, educational, and engaging! Paul Hido

B.A. Cleveland State Univsersity, M.B.A. University of Michigan

Paul Hido is an instructor at the Club. He has been training in jiu-jitsu since the fall of 2003. Paul earned his Black Belt from Pedro Sauer in October of 2017.

Paul was a primary founder of a jiu-jitsu academy in Youngstown in 2005. After moving to the Cleveland area he has trained and established relationships throughout the Northeast Ohio jiu-jitsu community.

PJ Hido

B.S.B.A. John Carroll University

PJ began training in BJJ in 2004. He earned his Purple Belt in February of 2017.

PJ's background in wrestling and several years of jiu-jitsu practice and teaching experience make him a knowledgeable and valuable coach and club member.

In 2003, having never previously been exposed to martial arts, Paul Hido searched the Youngstown area for anywhere he could learn effective self defense while remaining fit and active within the community. Eventually his search exposed him to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and he was hooked.

After getting his two sons involved in the sport in 2004, the Hido family has never ceased in their training. Coming up through the Pedro Sauer Jiu-Jitsu Association, the Hido's found their passion for teaching "BJJ" after helping to establish an academy in Youngstown in 2005.

Now, after relocating to the Cleveland area, they have established the North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club. Founded on the idea that anyone can learn effective jiu-jitsu in a friendly and fun environment, the Club hopes to be your home for self-defense and fitness training!
